ABOUT

EVOLUTION FREEDIVING

Evolution Freediving was established in Port Douglas, Queensland to build a community of passionate water people who are educated in safe water practices. By providing high-quality freediving education and training, we aim to help divers grow into the best versions of themselves and continue to positively impact the world around them.

We value the environment around us, fellow divers and ourselves. This translates to proactivity in dive education and the ability to identify and safely navigate risk associated with freediving practices. We aim to create an environment that facilitates exploration underwater and fosters growth within. We regard freediving as a lifestyle with emphasis on holistic health over rapid progression.

THE INSTRUCTORS

David Rogger-Amies

PADI Freediver Instructor

David is a passionate water person, shaped by the coastal waters of South East Queensland. From water polo to surf rescue, David’s interest in aquatic safety compliments his enthusiasm for all water-based activities. After watching his mate break down a tuna, David saw the potential of spearfishing. The selectivity hooked him into the world of freediving.

While living in Brisbane, David had access to quality pool training after joining the Brisbane Freedivers and Brisbane Bullsharks Freediving Clubs. This allowed him to deal with some mental barriers in spearfishing, refine his technique and explore his response to apnea in a safer environment. Pool training was a huge stepping stone in his development as a diver that eventually led him to further his freediving education, eventually becoming a freediving instructor.

In 2022, David decided to pursue his passion for freediving and moved to Port Douglas. With more than five years in tertiary education studying Physiotherapy and Medical and Mechatronic engineering, David is equipped with a diverse foundation across human physiology, movement, and engineering design principles. Combined with his freediving education and training, this has provided the ideal foundation to establish and equip a community of well-rounded freedivers and spearfishers.

Amanda Tran

Molchanovs W2 & Yoga Instructor

Growing up in Western Australia gave Amanda a great passion for the water despite her fear of the deep. After completing her first scuba diving course in Colombia, Amanda began to slowly overcome this fear through spending more time underwater.

While visiting the Philippines in 2017, Amanda was convinced to try her first freediving course and she was hooked. She has spent time further building upon her freediving education and training in Dahab and Bali where she eventually completed her instructor course to share her passion with the world.

Amanda is also a yoga teacher which allows her to understand the body as well as the mind. She aims to share her holistic approach to diving that encourages comfort and ease.
